The site of America’s third oldest lighthouse needs your help in keeping the museum reflective of Beavertail’s rich history.

If people involved with the Beavertail Lighthouse of the 18th and 19th centuries could visit it now, they would no doubt be amazed at how its functions have been replaced by automation. As we BLMA volunteers explore Beavertail’s history, however, we are the ones amazed at the caliber of their research and development in continuously improving Beavertail Lighthouse’s operations - and those of all US lighthouses.

From school children seeing and learning about the lighthouse and its keepers for the first time… to visitors from around the world who thrill to its gorgeous vistas – Beavertail inspires and fascinates. Join us in tapping all that Beavertail Lighthouse has to offer for all its supporters, learners, and visitors.

Why Join BLMA?

Only through member support for our mission can our light station remain open to the public - now and for generations to come.

A strong membership speaks with a clear voice that protecting and sharing this historic site and its educational resources are endeavors that enrich our community.

All are welcome to join and participate, whether re-joining as members or new to the BLMA. We welcome you and your conviction to keep watch over the light.

Ample opportunities exist to participate directly if you wish, as a docent, committee member, project team member, or simply supporter of learning and sharing 250+ years of lighthouse history!

Keeping the light bright with your membership preserves Beavertail’s historic buildings and rich history as a center for lighthouse development. You are invited to join us in this endeavor – and we think it will captivate you! Did you know, for example, that, in the test of a compressor and foghorn device, Beavertail had a true horse- powered sound signal system?

Learn about the scientific and engineering innovations that transformed US lighthouses from a problem-ridden system to one that won respect worldwide for its engineering and management excellence. Help keep this legacy of achievement shining brightly at Beavertail!

The BLMA welcomes more than 25,000 visitors each year from late May to mid October. Volunteer docents also lead school, civic, and private tour groups by appointment during the off-season.
